From November 11 to 13, 2024, the East and Southeast Asia Community Conservation Network (EASACCN) convened a significant meeting in Haiku, Hainan, China. This gathering brought together 23 participants from 15 member organizations across Cambodia, China, Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Burma, Japan, and the Philippines. The primary goals of the meeting were to share best practices in community conservation, foster relationships among organizations, and explore future collaboration opportunities. Participants were able to visit local resilient communities and received foundational training on Other Effective Area-based Conservation Measures (OECMs)—an innovative approach that engages communities in a win-win-win conservation strategy, promoting harmony between people, prosperity, and the planet.
During the meeting, the NGO Forum on Cambodia presented insights on the dynamics of foreign investment in Cambodia - highlighting interconnected issues threatening communities and the environment and emphasized the need for collaboration with civil society organizations (CSOs) and multi-stakeholders to promote responsible investment for sustainable development.
Inspired by the OECM concept, the NGOF plans to explore its application in various Cambodian communities using the METRI (Multi-stakeholder Engagement for Transformative, Resilient and Inclusive society) model in 2025.
Join us in celebrating this collaborative effort towards sustainable community conservation! 🌍✨ #EASACCN #CommunityConservation #SustainableDevelopment
