Last week, the NGO Forum on Cambodia (NGOF) participated in the Cambodia Climate Change Summit 2024, held in Independent Hotel Sihanoukville from 24th to 26th October 2024. The event has gathered approximately 500 participants, including government officials, development partners, civil society organizations, students, and representatives from local communities. The summit is presided over by H.E. Dr. Eang Sophalet, Minister of the Ministry of Environment, and aims to address critical issues related to climate change in Cambodia.
The summit's purpose is to foster collaborative efforts in combating climate change and promoting a shared future where people coexist harmoniously with nature. Around 80 guest speakers are set to share their experiences and best practices throughout the event. Key discussions revolve around global and regional topics, including operationalizing Article 6, challenges and opportunities in global carbon markets, accelerating climate action and sustainability in the Mekong, and youth engagement in climate action.
These topics strongly align with NGOF's strategic plan “Multi-Stakeholder Engagement for a Transformative, Resilient, and Inclusive Society in Cambodia," which emphasizes peaceful coexistence among all Cambodians and to promote hamoney between people and the planet. It is our responsibility to cultivate concerted efforts in fighting climate change together for us and for our next generations.
